The Scottish Government, in partnership with The Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy, recently launched Self-directed Support financial guidance notes.

This guidance is intended to help Scotland’s 32 local authorities to implement the more personalised service required for the delivery of Self-directed Support through sharing good practice. It also sets out how the reforms can be incorporated in plans, currently being developed at local levels to integrate health and social care.

The guidance was launched at the official opening of CIPFA Scotland’s new office in Edinburgh on the 31st July 2015, an event attended by Jamie Hepburn, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health who stated:

“Along with health and social care integration, Self-directed Support is part of a package of public sector reform policies which require a fundamental shift in culture to be achieved.” This financial management guidance and self-evaluation framework promotes good practice and will give financial managers the confidence to facilitate creative and collaborative approaches to social care and support.”
